Pedestrian – weekly photo challenge

Pedestrian  ,motor vehicle, boats or tram car. Are piers and jetties solely for pedestrian foot traffic to enable the person to fish or swim from the structure? Or are they meant for motor vehicles only to access the boat shed. In the bottom photo the pier now has a tram car travelling the length of its structure?

Mostly part of a bygone era, to enable goods and livestock to be boarded onto boats and ships for transport, piers and jetties are now mostly a tourist attraction, or a spot for the locals to wet a line.
