“With an eagles eye”, an Australian saying that means your eyesight is acute, far ranging and focused.
The Wedgetailed eagle is a magnificent Australian native bird, a huge bird it can be 80cm to 106cm in length and its wingspan between 80cm and 132cm.
We were fishing on Lake Maraboon in Queensland and we spotted the two eagles from about 2 kilometres away. They were sitting on top of a dead tree focused on their prey in the water below. They totally ignored us motoring toward them until we were very close and we stopped the engine and just waited. I think they were really hoping we would go away as they watched and waited for their next meal.
Eventually one flew away, but the other would not move, he was so focused he was not going to miss out.
